FRONTPAGE_NO_TRANSLATION_AVAILABLE

Tinjan is a small town that keeps its history and tradition. It is famous by the symbols of this area such as stone dry walls, puddles, hedge-bills, folklore, architectural tradition and gastronomic specialities. One of the gastronomic specialities is also a prosciutto so that Tinjan was proclaimed „A municipality of prosciutto“. Smithery is a tradition of this area, and the „Tinjan hedge-bills“ are very famous. Here the festival of hedge-bills and smith products from entire Istria is held every year on the holiday of St.Simon of Tinjan. From the gazebo you have a  wonderful view onto the fertile valley in which there is the monument of St.John Nepomuk, the protector of this place. Once the river had flown this way and the bridge had stood there. In the street called Geto there are the old houses with the engraved inscriptions of their owners. These were blacksmiths and military captains. There is an old school of Tinjan here called Casa Mara next to which there is a monument of Juraj dobrila, the bishop of Trieste. The bell tower of the St.Simon and St.Judah Tadej church affords a special charm, and it is 7 metres far away from the church, and along with its coronal  it is 28 metres high. It is a seal for Tinjan people. Under the shed of the trees there is a county ruler`s table at which the Tinjan people used to decide on important issues of their community.
