Visnjan
is situated between the river Mirna on the north and Limski kanal on the south.
The place is perfectly connected to Pula and Pazin and therefore with the rest
of the surroundings, as well. In Visnjan there live about 1300 inhabitants that
are mostly engaged in viticulture, grape growing and olive gorwing. The excitement
on this area is terra rossa after which this area was named „red Istria“. On
the town square there is a gothic chapel of St.Anthony the Hermit from the 15th
century. It was illustrated by Dominik from Udine. You can come to the square
through the town gate where the parish church and lodge are placed. The
St.Kvirika and Julita church was built in the first half of the 19th century.
The tower bell is even older. On the mail altar is an altarpiece with animage
of a saint the protector. The club of the star fans has been founded in the
place. Out of town there is an astronomic observatory that is today one of the
leading in Europe according to the number of the discovered asteroids.
