The city of Stari Grad is truthfully the oldest town in Europe. It is located 20 kilometers from the town of Hvar, and it has 1906 inhabitants. On this place, long time ago, was Pharos, Greek town where also lived famous Croatian poet Petar Hektorovic. His villa Tvrdalj is, even today, one of trademarks of the city of Stari Grad. The city of Stari Grad is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and pine wood. People are into tourism as well. As a tourist place, Stari Grad offers you accommodation in hotels, apartments, camps and bungalows. You will enjoy local specialties and high quality wines. Many sport courts are on your disposal for recreation: tennis, basketball, football, water sports, diving, surfing etc. Some of the magnificent beaches are Lanterna, Maslina, Banj. Cultural sights that you should visit are the church of St Nicholas and the church of St Lucy (Sv Lucija), built in 15th century, and demolished by Turks, the church of St Rok, who is also the protector of the city of Stari Grad, the church of St Peter and the Dominican Monastery. The church of St Stefan was built on the spot where previously there was first Cathedral in Croatia.
