Trsteno is located 24 kilometers
to the northwest from Dubrovnik, and it is one of the most beautiful places in
the Dubrovnik area. It got its name after sedges that grow here (sedge = Tstika
in Croatian). There are two old plane
trees in Trsteno, and those trees are 400 years old. There are also Reneissance
and Baroque houses, and along the seaside there is a well known villa of the
family of Nikola Nerdelija. Ivan Gučetić
built this villa with alleys, paths and numerous trees and various plants from
all over the world. Walls are ornated with family portraits. In Trsteno there
is also a Baroque tap with Neptun and nymphs.
