Jelsa
Jelsa is situated in beautiful bay in the central part of the island of Hvar, and it was founded by fishermen in the 15th century. It is about 30 kilometers east from the city of Hvar, and it has 1876 inhabitants. Jelsa is bordered by two highest peaks on the island - St Nicholas on the west, and Hum on the east.  On the south there are hills Vrh, Samotovac and Gozd, and on the north side, as a shield from winds, there is a hill Burkovo. Jelsa is famous for its vineyards, olive groves and orchards. Hills and hammocks are rich in aromatic lavender, sage, pines and cypresses, the breathtaking nature. Jelsa being the tourist center, has versatile accommodation : hotels, apartments, camps. Jelsa is connected to other places on the island by local roads, and by boat Jelsa is connected with Spilt on the mainland. Jelsa and the island of Hvar are important by its numerous cultural and historical monuments. Visit churches, parks, caves, squares, bars, disco clubs, bays and capes, and you will find something that will make your vacation a pleasant one.
