The island of Solta is situated
on the west from the island of Brac, and on the south from the Split town.
Having around 1400 inhabitants, Solta makes one of the less inhabited islands
in Croatia. In the fortification called Gradac there are traces of life from
the prehistoric era, and the later Roman findings were originated in Rogac,
Grohote and Necujam. This island was attacked many times by Venetians and Omis
pirates. It was also a shelter for the
refugees after the fall of Klis. The inhabitants are traditionally cultivating olives,
and processing oil, figues and carob. The most significant monument are basilicas. In
Grohote there is an edifice made of carved stone with square windows and
serrated chaplet. The St.Theresa church is placed in Rogac. There is a Kastel with a loop hole here.
