The city of Hvar is situated
between two hills and a lowland amid them.
Inhabitants call this lowland «Pjaca». Nowadys , Hvar is populated with approximately
3 650 inhabitants. The St.Stephen's Cathedral, on the town square, was built by national artisans on remains of
the late-Gothic Cathedral that was originally constructed in the fifteenth
century. On the southern side of the square there is the Arsenal, with a
theatre within, and on the ground floor of the Arsenal there is a repository
for the war galleon. The Franciscan monastery and the church are situated in
the bay of Križ. The valuable painting
„The last dinner“ is kept in the
monastery. The Hvar lace, made by hand in the Benedictine monastery , is yet another
of the numerous particularities. Thanks
to its rich history and many cultural events, but also its unforgettable night
