The village Govedari has 179 inhabitants today. It is located above the Big lake (Veliko jezero) bay, 5 kilometers away from the sea. The place got its name from the first occupation of its inhabitants (Govedari can be translated as the Cattle Place, for the inhabitants were growing cattle and living from it at the time). Govedari makes part of an area that was, thanks to its unique beauty, declared a national park. At the same time, Govedari is the only bigger settlement within the national park, and was founded by the Benedictines in the 18th century. Not far away from the village, there is a parish church St Nicholas, built at the beginning of the 20th century. People are traditionally occupied with vineyards and olive groves, and also with tourism.
